Desolation of Smaug

Finally saw the second Hobbit movie and I have to say I quite enjoyed it - I know some people are annoyed by the somewhat frenetic pacing, but to be honest, watching dwarves sit in dungeons for three months would probably be kind of boring.

Most of the changes from the book actually fall under that for me, and most of the action scenes managed not to be too ridiculous (except for Thorin's wheelbarrow, that cracked me up).  Smaug was awesome - whatever was bothering me about his head in the previews seems to have been fixed- and I would have watched the whole movie just to see him golden like that.

Even Tauriel didn't piss me off as much as she might have since she didn't seem all that interested in being a love interest (and I mean, Kili has essentially given up already).

Honestly, my major complaint was that for the last third of the movie all I could think was, “How could you separate Kili and Bilbo? How?” There goes the canon for half of what I've planned. I guess I'll have to start writing pining fics instead.  And figure out a way to make them still in love while he goes and flirts with Tauriel.  Maybe I can blame it all on him being friendly and delirium?

(And am I the only one who's kind of hoping that Peter Jackson keeps Fili and Kili alive, even though that's totally not canon at all?)
